What is Chinese Herbal Medicine

An integral component of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Herbal Medicine aims to restore the balance of energy within the body.

Chinese Herbal Medicine has been used for a wide range of applications for thousands of years, and harnesses the beneficial effects of specific herbs and mineral substances in accordance with Chinese medicine philosophies of health care.

It can be used on its own, as a complementary therapy, or in conjunction with cupping and/or acupuncture treatments.

Qualified Chinese Herbalist serving Sydney’s CBD

Dr. David Lee has been providing Traditional Chinese Medicine to Sydney CBD and surrounds for over a decade.

Holding a double degree in Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dr. Lee is able to assess clients and create a prescription based on their personal needs and composition.

Why choose Chinese Herbal Medicine

Used for nearly 2,500 years, Chinese herbal medicine is one of the oldest and continuously practised medical professions in the world.

Working on the same methodology as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine aims to re-establish the natural balance and harmony of the body.

Safe

Providing high quality, TGA approved ingredients, qualified Chinese Herbalist David Lee provides Chinese Medicine you can trust.

Natural

Besides the occasional use of minerals or animal products, Chinese Herbal Medicine is made exclusively from plant matter, including leaves, twigs, flowers, fruit, roots and stems.

Gentle

Because the ingredients used in Chinese Herbal Medicine are natural, they have a lower impact on the body, and tend not to cause as many side effects as pharmaceuticals tend to.

Convenient

We use the powder form of Chinese herbs, known as granules. By simply adding hot water to the granules you can drink your herbal medicine quickly and easily, and take them with you anywhere.

Preparing Chinese Herbal Medicine

Because we use the granulated form of Chinese Herbs, your prescription should be easy to prepare, and can be consumed in just the way you would have a coffee or tea.

Unless your prescription indicates otherwise, to prepare your Chinese herbal medicine, follow these steps:

  1. Use the measuring spoon provided to add the prescribed amount of granules to a mug.
  2. Add hot water and stir to combine letting the herbs infuse with the water for 30-60 seconds.
  3. Drink as soon as the water temperature allows you to.
  4. Continue to take your Chinese herbs as prescribed or until your follow up appointment.

Please keep in mind that these herbs should be treated with the same caution and respect given to pharmaceutical drugs.

If you are taking other medications or have any other concerns please contact Dr. Lee or your prescribing doctor for advice.

Animal Products in Herbal Medicine

On rare occasions, Chinese Medicine formulas may include animal or insect products. However, these products can be substituted for plant based herbs and plant matter at your request.

At David Lee Acupuncture, we do not supply or support the use of endangered species or illegal substances, and only use high quality, TGA approved Chinese Herbs.

Upon assessment, we will discuss your prescription with you in detail to make sure we take into consideration any other medications you are taking, as well as any dietary or ethical requirements you may have.

Whether you have certain intolerances, personal preferences, or religious beliefs, the personalised nature of Chinese Herbal Medicine allows us to tailor a prescription that best suits you.
